SYMPTOMS OF VITILIGO
Vitiligo is basically a skin condition than a disease that causes loss of skin color which appear blotched up and patchy. The body has a pigment making process called melanogenesis in which melanocytes produce melanin to give color to the skin, eyes and hair. Melanocytes are crucial as they contribute up to 10% of the basal layer cells of epidermis. Vitiligo is practically unpredictable because it can occur without preexisting medical conditions in which the skin is discolored into colorless patches that can also affect hair and the mouth. Melanin makes color in the skin and when it is destroyed or not produced, then Vitiligo occurs. Although fair people can be seen with moderate color variations, it is highly felt in people with darker skin. This condition is not infectious or life-threatening but can be humiliating and make one susceptible to depressive thinking.
Signs and Symptoms of Vitiligo
As studied above, loss of skin pigment can mean Vitiligo but since there are several diseases that one can mistakenly identified as Vitiligo namely Tenia versicolor, Pityriasis Alba or white scarsand IGH. It is also advisable to consult a dermatologist to be sure to head in the right direction for the right treatment. Usually, excessive exposure to the sun can cause vitiligo and can include the hands, feet, arms, face and lips.
